Two Madison Elementary and eight Jr. High students participated in the Burlington Middle School Robotics Meet held Wednesday, January 14.. The robots were all built from a Lego Mindstorms kit which has a programmable RCX or NXT transmitter. Events in which the robots participated were: Capture the Flag individual, Capture the Flag Tournament, Maze Race, Ratio Run, 25Foot Run and 100 Foot Run. 58 teams from 22 schools(120 total students) had built and programmed a robot for the competitions.
Madison students were very successful in the competitions. MJH students, Braxton Butler and Madison Eaton were 1st place winners of the Robotics Olympic Championship. This was a combination of all points earned during the meet. Another Madison team with Piper and Tristan Brandt placed 2nd in the Robotics Olympic Championship and Sam Davis placed 6th. With 58 teams competing this was an impressive accomplishment.
The following are the winners of the individual events: Braxton and Madison won 1st in the individual Capture the Flag, 2nd in Maze Race and 6th in the Capture the Flag Tournament. Piper and Tristan were first in the 100 foot race and 3rd in the Ratio Run.
Other students participating from Madison were Sammy Bond, Cassidy Barnard, Brenda McCollum, Tyler Farthing and Rebekah McVey.
