8th Grade English
Making Inferences and Drawing Conclusions
February 02, 2010
Mrs. Helm's 8th grade English classes did an activity where groups were given a scenario to act out using no words and no props. For example a group may be asked to act out a ballet recital, rock concert, picnic, aerobic class, etc. The purpose of this exercise is for the class to be able to make an inference and draw a conclusion about what the different groups are doing based on their actions. This is a skill we are constantly asked to do in our reading of different text types.
Kenny, Taylor, Marcus: This group is having a picnic I know this because they spread out the blanket and sat down and they are all eating food.
Bryan and Jason: This group is doing a aerobics class they are both doing exercises and stretching Bryan is the leader and then Jason is following in the audience.
Mitch and DJ: This group is protesting, they are holding up signs and marching around the room. He looks angry.
Zeke and Lydia: This group is proposing, Zeke is asking Lydia to marry him, he is down on one knee and handing her the ring.
Sammy B. and Sammy C: They are at a rock concert, they are head banging and have the "rock sign" playing air guitar, dancing.
Corey and Cassidy: They are dancing and doing ballet. I know this because of the way they are dancing and stretching, twirling like a ballerina, etc.
Marybeth and Kadin: Proposal- Kadin is down on one knee asking Marybeth to marry him- she rejects him at first.
Aubrey and Hayden: Aubrey is taking pictures of Hayden because he is a famous movie star and she is a paparazzi.
Dallas and Brenda: Are in a circus- Dallas walked a tight rope, so did Brenda.
